Once the plugin is installed, product images will be automatically resized on upload.
To resize existing images follow the steps here.
To resize large images make sure you increase your server memory_limit to at least 512M or 1024 for better resizing performances.


You can change the settings under WooCommerce → Smart Image Resize to fit your needs.
Images: Use this option to select which images to resize. By default, only product images.
Sizes: Select which sizes to generate, this allows to free up space from unwanted sizes.
Trim Whitespace: Remove unwanted whitespace around image to make images look uniform:
Whitespace trimmed
Background Color: Change the color of the excess area.
Image Compression: Compress image to reduce image file.
Convert to JPG format: Convert PNG to JPG to improve page load time.
Enable WebP format: Reduces image file size by up to 90% comparing to PNG images without losing quality. Fall back to legacy formats for browsers that can't display WebP images.

Resize existing images

If you already uploaded images to media library, use one of these methods to resize existing images:

    Install Regenerate Thumbnails plugin
  2. 2.
    Go to Tools → Regenerate Thumbnails
  3. 3.
    Make sure the Skip regenerating existing correctly sized thumbnails (faster) option is unchecked.
  4. 4.
    Finally, click Regenerate Thumbnails For All N Attachments

Using reGenerate Thumbnails Advanced plugin:

  1. 2.
    Go to Tools → Regenerate Thumbnails
  2. 3.
    Uncheck Don't redo existing in the Image Sizes settings
  3. 4.
    Finally, Click Regenerate button

Using WP-CLI (Advanced):

  1. 1.
    Install WP-CLI
Note: to run WP-CLI in the background, follow this tutorial.
Make sure you purge cache if old images still showing up, including your browser, caching plugin, and CloudFlare.
